‘Almere Gele Wol’ (Almere Yellow Wool)
“In Almere a Community Wool Club process organic, surplus wool into felt, using pedal-power in an outdoor processing plant. The felt is naturally dyed with onion skins.
From a 30x30cm sheet, only scissors are needed. All the material is used, leaving no waste.
The felt acts as packaging, cushioning the other components and is flame resistant.
The petals invert to shade or direct the light. Friction holds it in position.
Production costs are minimal due to the simple tooling and human-powered machinery; the design originates from community engagement.
At the end of the lamp’s life, the wool can be composted.”
